Shane Quinn, Ferrybank was the star Irish performer at the AAA's under 15/under 17 championships at Birmingham this weekend winning the under 15 1500 metres in a new championship best performance of 4.04.10. Shane, son of Irish steeplechase record holder Brendan, has had a string of titles in schools and juvenile championships this year and is clearly an athlete of exceptional talent. Claire Fitzgerald, Tralee had a double in the under 15 shot 12.61 metres and javelin 36.16 metres and was also 2nd in the discus with 31.48 metres. Gary Coulter , Ballymena won the high jump with 1.94 metres with Barry Pender St Abbans 3rd in the same height . Niall Tuohy and Niamh Whelan both from Ferrybank and dominant in their events at home this season finished 3rd in the 800 metres 1.55.18 and 200 metres 24.44 respectively. Jenny Brown was 2nd in the shot with 11.72 metres while in the 5000 metres walks Donna Carolan 26.57.08 and Niall Prendiville 26.03.85 also finished 2nd. The above is an early summary of results.
