The Athletics Association of Ireland National Marathon Championships were held in conjunction with the Adidas Dublin City Marathon on October Bank Holiday Monday and added an extra competitive edge to affairs for the domestic contingent. Letterkenny AC dominate the results and have proved themselves to be the premier marathon club in the country having claimed all four team titles, an accomplishment to be proud off. Other clubs could learn a lot from their success. In the senior men team category Athenry AC were best of the rest behind Letterkenny. Athenry is only in its fourth year of existence but claimed All Ireland silver medals to go with the bronze medals won at the AAI National Half Marathon Championships earlier this year - a bright future beckons. Eagle AC from Cork, old hands at the marathon, had a comfortable margin in claiming the bronze medals. In the Senior Women's event Letterkenny had a huge winning margin over Sportsworld AC with Eagle AC confirming it's place as one of the top clubs over the classic distance with it's second set of bronze medals of the weekend. The results in the mens masters category resemble a north west local derby with Letterkenny holding off Foyle Valley and Finn Valley. Is there something in the water up there? In the Masters Women category Leterkenny completed the grand slam of team titles ahead of Dublin duo Tallaght AC and Raheny Shamrocks.
