Chris O’Donnell has secured his place in the Men’s 400m Semi Finals at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon this evening (July 17th).  O’Donnell secured one of the six fastest qualifications spots, after coming fourth in his heat with a time of 46.01, to see him through to the semi-finals. The North Sligo AC athlete produced a powerful performance throughout the heat, maintaining his position within the top 3 coming into the final 100m, just narrowly missing out on an automatic qualification spot as he came in behind the Dominican Republic’s Lidio Andres Feliz on the line.

The men’s 400m semi-finals take place on Day 6 of the Championships at 2:45am (21st July) Irish time.

Powerhouse Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) has secured an automatic qualification in the women’s 400m Semi-Finals. Adeleke returned to the track after her mixed 4x400m performance on Day 1, for the first of her individual races at these championships. The young sprinter looked comfortable throughout her 400m heat, crossing the line in second place automictically seeing her through to the semi-finals with a time of 51.59.

The women’s 400m semi-finals take place on Day 6 of the Championships at 3:15am (21st July) Irish time.

Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock AC) produced a stellar performance in her 400m heat, crossing the line in fifth place with 52.24 on the clock. It was unfortunately not enough to see her throughout to the semi-finals. This season has been sensational for Becker with a number of incredible performances coming into the championships alongside a series of incredible performances throughout the World Championships, playing an integral role in the mixed 4x400m heats and finals.
