Reece Ademola (Leevale A.C.) extended his National U23 Long Jump record yesterday evening at the Citti' di Padova meet in Italy.

The 20-year-old from Cork jumped 7.97m to finish third adding 1cm to his previous record set in July when he won his first senior gold at the 123.ie National Senior Track and Field Championships in Santry.

It moves him ever closer to the magical 8m barrier that has only ever been exceeded by one Irish athlete, Ciaran McDonagh who jumped 8.07m in 2005.

Elsewhere at the same meet Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn A.C.) returned to the track following her fourth place finish over 1500m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Mageean dropped down in distance to race over 800m where she finished second behind American Sinclaire Johnson in 2.00.08.

Brian Fay (Raheny Shamrocks A.C.) also stepped down in distance to race over 1500m, the Dubliner taking nearly two seconds off his personal best for the distance to finish tenth in 3.36.52.

Sophie O’Sullivan (Ballymore Cobh A.C.) produced another fine performance to finish eighth in the Women’s 1500m in 4.07.66, the third fastest time of her career.

Christopher O’Donnell (North Sligo A.C.) was also in action over 400m at the ISTAF meet in Berlin. O’Donnell finished fifth in a time of 46.38.

On Saturday all eyes were on the Xiamen Diamond League in China, where Sarah Healy (UCD A.C.) once again impressed. The 22-year-old clocked the second fastest time of her career to finish seventh in a strong field, crossing the line in 4.01.48.
