Akpe-Moses finishes 8th in world 100m final

Gina Akpe-Moses (Blackrock-Louth) starred on day 3 of the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships by finishing 8th in the 100m final in 11.64 seconds in Tampere, Finland today (July 12).

Akpe-Moses became the first Irish sprinter to reach a world U20 100m final since 2000 where Emily Maher finished 7th.

"I just have to keep building and building," said Akpe-Moses on her fine achievement. She finished third in her semi-final in 11.51 earlier in the day to advance as a fastest qualifier.

Ciara Neville (Emerald) missed out on the final finishing fifth in her  semi-final in 11.70. That ranked her 16th overall.

Aaron Sexton (North Down) ran an excellent 21.06 for a lifetime best over 200m to automatically advance to the semi-finals with a fourth place finish. He followed that up with 5th in his semi-final in 21.33.
