Alex Wright (Leevale AC) produced a stunning performance in a 50 km race in Germany on Saturday 11th of October.  Wright making his debut at the distance crossed the line in a time of 3:51.28 which moves him to third place on the Irish All Time list behind Robert Heffernan (3:37.54) and Janie Costin (3:50.51).

The remarkable performance by Wright comes off the back of his move to Cork last year to be coached by World Champion Heffernan at the Cork Race Walking Academy; the group also includes fellow Irish International athletes Luke Hickey (Leevale AC) and Brendan Boyce (Letterkenny AC).

Wright’s major target for 2015 is likely to be the 20km race at the IAAF World Championships which take place in Beijing next August.
