AMAH AND LANGTON BOW OUT AS QUINN ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINAL

Team Ireland enjoyed another busy day of action at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon. The opening session saw Dubem Amah advancing to the men’s 200m semi-final, while Siún Quinn secured her place in Sunday’s high jump final.

Quinn safely negotiated high jump qualification with a clearance of 1.79m, booking her place in Sunday’s final.

Amah produced a superb personal best of 20.96 to finish third in his 200m heat and automatically advance. Returning for the semi-final later in the day, he clocked 21.04 to finish fifth, ending the championships ranked 14th in the world over 200m.

Eoin O’Callaghan completed the opening five events of the men’s decathlon with 3,759 points to sit 22nd overall. He recorded 11.17 in the 100m (823 points), a season’s best 6.57m in the long jump (713), 14.56m in the shot put (763), 1.82m in the high jump (644) and 49.97 in the 400m (816). O’Callaghan will return for a busy second day of decathlon action.

Pia Langton clocked 2:07.41 to finish seventh in her women’s 800m semi-final, completing an impressive championship campaign ranked 23rd in the world.

Orlaith Mannion was also in action in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking 13.73 to finish fourth in her heat, narrowly missing out on progression with a superb run from the outside lane.

Team Ireland return for another packed programme on Day 4 in Oregon.
