Amy Foster (North Down) and Eoin Healy (D.S.D.) made a wonderful start for the Irish team at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Lignano, Italy by taking medals in the girls 100m and boys 2000m steeplechase events respectively. Amy was in superb form winning her heat of the 100m in 11.98, a personal best and European Junior Championships qualifier, and also won her semi-final before taking the silver in the final with a wind-assisted 11.84 second run. Eoin's bronze-medal winning time of 6:02.03 was a personal best. An excellent 3:56 for 1500m in Watford recently indicated that Eoin was in superb form. Our warmest congratulations to both Amy and Eoin. Kalyn Sheehan ran a great personal best of 62.52 in the 400 hurdles to also qualify for the final and her clubmate Kelly Proper jumped 6.01m in the final of a very competitive long jump to finish 6th. In the 800m David McCarthy was the fastest qualifier in 1:52 and has outstanding prospects in the final on Wednesday.
