Patricia McLoughlin – Le Cheile AC and Ciaran McGonagle – Letterkenny AC take national titles at the Anglo Celtic Plate 100K.
Patricia McLoughlin and Ciaran McGonagle won the Athletics Ireland National Titles at the Anglo Celtic Plate in Craigavon on Sunday 02nd April.
Patricia was captain of a strong squad of 5 women and 5 men competing for the much-coveted Anglo Celtic Plate. The Women’s team started strong and had built up a substantial team lead by the halfway point but then began to weaken. The team was soon reduced to two which made them non scoring but team captain McLoughlin never showed any sign of slowing and led by example to finish in second place overall.
Ciaran McGonagle led the Men to a Team Bronze while also running a new national record of 6:57:32.
The other notable achievement on the day came from Wayne Waldron of Donore Harriers running well inside the International B Standard in his first attempt at the 100Km distance with a time of 7:11:59.
The Anglo Celtic Plate 100K is a Home Countries competition that aims to support ultra-distance running and develop athletes and teams for international competition. The next edition of the ACP will be held in Wales 2024.
