Athletics Ireland is pleased to announce a large team of 29 athletes for the forth coming European Championships in Gothenburg on August 7-13th. The team comprises of an exciting mix of experience and emerging talent and is led by experienced team manager Patsy McGonagle. Among the leading 
contenders, based on current European Rankings include the following: European Indoor gold medallist Alistair Cragg in the 5,000m and ranked first on the European ranking list; World Indoor 60mH Champion Derval O’Rourke, who set a new Irish record of 12.92 recently in Lausanne and heading to Helsinki GP today; David Gillick European Indoor Champion, currently ranked 9th in Europe, and feeling confident after a superb run at the National Championships at the weekend; Roisin McGettigan in the 3000SC who smashed the National Record at the weekend and is currently ranked 7th on the European List and Marie Davenport in the 10,000m who lies 5th on the 5,000m list. Emerging talents such as Joanne Cuddihy, who won the 200m & 400m in scintillating style at the National Championships, recent National High Jump record breaker and National Champion Deirdre Ryan, and Paul Hession of Athenry will make up the team.
