Women’s running in Ireland is at an all-time high, with more women and girls taking part in running events than ever before. We all know habits change in the wintertime and getting out to run becomes much harder.
Taking learnings from the Welsh Athletics campaign Own The Night, we want to empower women and increase their confidence to continue to be active all year long.
This Autumn Athletics Ireland are launching RUN ON. We want to support and empower our clubs and our women to understand how to continue to run over the winter and how clubs can help support their members to do this. The nights get darker. Your running doesn’t have to stop. You don’t have to run in winter alone
RUN ON will focus on three main things:
- BE SEEN.
Simple, practical advice for running safely in darker conditions.
- RUN TOGETHER.
Encourage runners – particularly women who may change their habits in winter – to run with others when they want to.
- JOIN IN.
Highlight our amazing clubs as somewhere you can train, belong and keep running throughout winter.
How To Get Involved As A Club?
We are asking clubs to organise their own RUN ON training session to take place anytime between 29th October and the 5th November. We want to get as many clubs as possible to light up and RUN ON together. The clocks HAVE gone back but we want to RUN ON.
All club resources and toolkit can be found here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dHAiuaTWoE_iV5bJfCv4Z-A0K8Mz5lJG?usp=drive_link
- Social Media RUN ON Tool Kit to promote the campaign and your club
- A Step-by-Step guide for running at night
- The first 25 clubs to sign up will receive a box of personal LED rechargeable running lights (20 per box) that they can give to members.
