Athletics Ireland was delighted to attend the launch of Paralympics Ireland’s new strategy today (Wednesday, September 30), which sets out an ambitious vision to expand opportunities for people with disabilities in sport, support Irish athletes to achieve world-class performances and help build a more inclusive Ireland through sport.
Representatives from across Irish sport, including athletes, coaches, National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships, came together to explore how the sector can continue to work collaboratively to improve access, participation and performance opportunities for people with disabilities.
“We Are Mór”
Built around the message “We Are Mór”, the new Paralympics Ireland strategy places athletes at the centre of its vision for the future of Para sport.
The strategy’s mission is to create a vibrant and sustainable Para sport system that enables Irish athletes to achieve world-class performances which inspire change, while its overarching vision is to “Through sport, build a more inclusive Ireland.”
Three core objectives will guide Paralympics Ireland’s work:
- Lead Team Ireland to perform to its potential and deliver success at the Paralympic Games
- Transform Para sport access and opportunities
- Use its voice to build a more equitable and inclusive Ireland Paralympics-Ireland-Strategy-FI…
The strategy also places a strong emphasis on collaborative partnerships, athlete voice and creating more opportunities for people to access and develop within Para sport.
A New Chapter for Para Athletics
The launch comes at an important time for Athletics Ireland following the completion of the transition of the governance and administration of Para athletics to Athletics Ireland on August 1, 2026.
The move represents a significant milestone in the continued development of Para athletics in Ireland, bringing the sport within Athletics Ireland’s structures and providing an opportunity to strengthen pathways, integration and support for athletes across participation, development and high performance.
Athletics Ireland looks forward to continuing to work closely with Paralympics Ireland, Sport Ireland and partners across the sporting system to support the growth and development of Para sport and ensure more people have the opportunity to participate, progress and perform.
