Invitation to all runners Athletics Offaly are pleased to support and help promote a number of road races in the county over the coming months. Some of these races have been established for a number of years and have attracted a growing number of participants. As well as providing good competitive races for athletic club members these events are great community social occasions. It’s good to see a road race in Birr this year after a lapse of many years, the Masters among us will remember the great Vintage Week Festival road race which was held for many years in the town. Last year Gerry Ryan, Galway City Harriers was an impressive winner of the Boston Scientific in 19.32. Colm Burke St Abbans won the Jack Cox 15.19 ahead of Noel Kelly Mullingar Harriers 15.23 and Colm also won in Daingean running 15.35. Ferbane AC’s Paul Buckley completed a hat trick of victories in winning Ferbane, Mount Bolus and Ballinagar. Tullamore Harriers Pauline Curley took the Ladies title in five of the race with teammate Ursula O’Reilly winning in Mount Bolus. A growing number of people are recognising the health benefits of physical activity and Athletics Offaly would like to encourage people to get involved in running. For those new to the sport these races provide an opportunity to experience a running event, make new friends and hopefully having enjoyed the occasion join an athletic club. The races are as follows with more details available from the individual promoter’s flyers and posters.
