Brendan Boyce and Cian McManamon are set to take to international competition this weekend at the European Race Walking Cup in Podebrady, Czech Republic (May 16th).
The preliminary start lists include 212 athletes from 25 countries. The Men’s 50k is set to start at 7am (Irish time) and will see Finn Valley’s Brendan Boyce take to the start line. Boyce has already secured Olympic qualification following a fantastic performance in the 50k European Race Walking Championships in Lithuania (2019).
Tokyo would represent Boyce’s third Olympic Games, having previously competed at London in 2012, and Rio in 2016.
Cian McManamon is set to take his place in the Men’s 20k which is scheduled to start at 14:30 (Irish time). The Westport AC athlete will be looking to build on his recent outings in Spain as he returns to the scene of his 1:24:03 20k walk in 2017.
