Fionnuala Britton had her best cross country performance to date when she comprehensively won the Ghent International last Sunday. Fionnuala finished 33secs ahead of Belgian star Veerle Dejaeghere. On this type of form Fionnuala is capable of finishing in the top 10 in the senior race for the European Cross Country. It is interesting to note that Fionnuala also has eligibility for the inaugural European under 23 race (not officially a championship this year). Linda Byrne finished in 11th place. A welcome return to international competition was made by Seamus Power who finished 5th in the men's event followed by Mark Christie in 9th place. The junior men's race saw a fine win for Cathal Dennehy with Eoin McCormack 3rd followed by Kevin Lawlor and Rory Chesser in 7th and 8th positions respectively. Best of the Irish in the junior women's event was Ellen Diskin who finished 4th. A further group of Irish athletes will be participating in the international meeting in Tilburg, Holland next Sunday. The team will be announced tomorrow
