Irish athletes are in action all over Europe and at home this weekend. The Irish Juvenile Championships take place in Tullamore on Saturday and Sunday. The Irish Junior team will be looking for qualifications for the forthcoming World Junior Championships when they participate in the DLV Junior Meeting in Mannheim on Saturday and Sunday. Jason Smyth, Amy Foster and David McCarthy are all hoping for the conditions to be right to secure their place for Beijing. Christopher Quinn who finished 0.3 of a second outside the 400H qualifier in the National Junior Championships last weekend will be hoping to get the 53.34 mark in Gothenburg. Tonight Mark Christie and Martin Fagan compete in the 1500m in Aarhus, Denmark, and Deirdre Ryan and Mary Cullen compete in Lucerne. Alistair Cragg competes in the Gaz de France in Paris tomorrow (Thursday) night in the 5,000m his first 5K since he set a personal best of 13.08.97 in New York earlier in the year. It promises to be an exciting affair. Cuxhaven, Germany will enjoy a number of Irish competitors including Thomas Chamney in the 800m, Sinead Evans in the 1500m and Paul Hession and Anna Boyle in the sprints.
