Cleirigh Buttner bows out in 800m heats

Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (DSD) debuted at her first global championships finishing 6th in her 800m heat in 2:06.54 at the worlds in London.

The DSD athlete was slightly disappointed with her performance but it was a long season that included the NCAA Championships in the US and the European U23 Championships in Poland.

"I came here to compete with an outside chance of getting through and not just run purely for experience. I think I did myself proud."

Cleirigh Buttner was making good progress down the back straight on the second lap but got her legs tangled in traffic that upset her rhythm at a critical stage in the race.

"I want to get through the rounds and I'll be 24 at the next championships and should be close to my peak for this event."
