Athletics Ireland is delighted to announce details and open registration for the forthcoming Sprints / Jumps / Hurdles Network Day which will be held in Athlone IT on Saturday April 23rd.
Registration: https://eventmaster.ie/event/nr2EhplH0v
The day will feature keynote presentations and workshops from leading international coaches – Volker Herrmann, Julian Reid and some local talent including Brendan Glynn(sprints) and Brian Scanlon (throws).
Volker, who is an IAAF tutor, and recently returned to Germany after a spell as Head Coach for Indian Athletics will kick start the day with an opening lecture on individualising training. An important topic which is often difficult to do with a group of athletes.
Then we will go into our breakout rooms and go to your chosen event. Volker will also deliver a practical hurdles session, having previously worked with some of our top hurdlers this is a session to look forward to.
For Julian Reid this will be his first time presenting for AAI. As an international triple jumper, Julian won an NCAA silver and bronze medal, a world Student Games bronze medal, and a European bronze medal. He is starting to earn a great reputation for developing jumping in long, triple and high jump. Recently coaching the women’s UK indoor gold medallist, and Bucs medals in men’s and women’s triple jump.
Brendan will deliver a sprints session. He has built up a very successful squad in Galway and is bringing through a lot of high-quality sprinters. The development of Robert McDonnell is particularly interesting, he recently ran 20.86 indoors with 400m the long-term goal.
Brian is a former international javelin thrower who is now a Level 4 throws coach and delivers a number of the throws modules for AAI's Level 2 coaching courses. He is currently the national javelin coach and has been a regional throws coach for Munster for several years. Brian was one of the coaches preparing and assisting our U18 athletes at the 2019 European Youth Olympics festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. He has participated in several international conferences/workshops and is always expanding his contacts with other European and international coaches visiting training venues in Finland, Sweden, Portugal and the UK. He has coached numerous athletes to national and international success in each of the throwing disciplines.
