The National Combined Events Squad gathered in Tallaght AC on Sunday 7th Dec.  Over 18 of our top heptathletes and decathletes presented for a busy day of technical work and competition strategy chats. After warm up national coaches of Brid Golden, Garry Power, Alan Golden and Lucy Moore took the group through a rotation of four technical events. These included long jump, sprint hurdles, high jump and shot put.

Athlete Support

During lunch Kieron Stout provided information about support for combined events athletes, details of potential bursaries and targeted national & international heptathlon/decathlon competitions in 2015. Athletes shared their experiences of travelling abroad to compete and the challenges they faced. National coaches shared useful information about how best to plan and prepare for heptathlon and decathlon. The day closed with an excellent discus session outside and a challenging core session inside in the sports hall for the rest of the squad.

It was a terrific day for the combined events squad and support team. Well done & thank you to all who travelled long distances to contribute and participate in the day. It was great to have the CE community together to close the squad sessions for 2014 and plan for competition in 2015. This year has been a very successful year for the CE community. Overall participation has increased by 20% since 2010 and performances have improved significantly in the same time. We look forward to our National Indoor CE Championships in AIT on January 17th.
