At our upcoming Congress to be hosted in person in Tullamore Court Hotel on the 15th of April 2023, our membership will be tasked with the important role of electing/appointing a minimum of 40% of both genders to the Board of Athletics Ireland.

Government has been very clear that there will be significant financial consequences in 2024 for those NGBs who do not reach the 40% Board gender target. Gender balance is fundamental for the leadership of any organisation that is committed to equality and ideally equitable representation should be reflected at all levels of our sport. We note that athletics is a very gender balanced sport with an approximate 50/50 gender balance across our membership.

We encourage a minimum of 40% gender balance within all our structures including club, county and provincial committees to coaching, officials and the Board.

We request suitable candidates to consider a role within the Athletics Ireland structures over the coming weeks in advance of Congress.
