NI & Ulster Uneven Age Group and Novice Results - Leinster Intermediate and Juvenile Over 1700 athletes experienced sunshine, excellent courses and brilliant competition which were the hallmarks of two days of the Leinster cross country championships held in the grounds of Avondale House, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow and Heywood College, Ballinakill, Co. Laois over the past two weeks. Slí Cualann’s Brian Farrell was untouchable in the Men’s Novice while Ger Clancy (DMP) followed up on his summer road race victories by breaking away from a group of three on the final lap to take the Intermediate Men’s title. Colm Burke (St Abbans) also continued his winning ways in taking the Master’s title. The Novice and Intermediate Ladies events were dominated by the much improved Fiona Kehoe from Kilmore AC, who led from gun to tape in both events while Helen Leonard (Raheny Shamrocks) had a much closer victory in the Masters event. Other two time winners included Elizabeth Carr (Mullingar Harriers) who won at Under 13 & Under 14 Mary Mulhare (North Laois) who won at Under 15 & Under 16, Shane Fitzsimons (Mullingar Harriers) who won at Under13 & Under 14 Shane Boggs (Mullingar Harriers) who was outstanding at Under17 & Under 18. Athletics Leinster extends thanks to the Wicklow and Laois County Boards, Slí Cualann and St. Abbans clubs for the top class staging of the two events. The committee would also like to remind all eligible athletes who are interested in running for the province in either the Stormont Cross Country or Scottish Indoor Championships to register their application as soon as possible.
