RELAY TEAMS SELECTED FOR DAY 5 OF EUROPEAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ireland have selected two strong relay teams for tomorrow’s 4x100m (men) and 4x400m (women) heats at the European Athletics Championships in Munich.
The men’s 4x100m relay team is set to take to the heats at 9.00am. The men’s line-up includes recent 100m record-breaker Israel Olatunde (UCD AC), as well national 200m champion Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrock), U23 200m champion Colin Doyle (Leevale AC), and national 100m silver medallist Joseph Ojewumi (Tallaght AC) who clocked a 10.44 in June. The team will start from lane 2 and will bid to secure one of the 3 automatic qualifying places for Sunday’s final. It promises to be a burn up from the gun and the national 4x100m record of 39.23 could be yet another Irish record under threat at these championships.
