Dean Casey of Ennis Track AC has set a new Irish U20 10,000m record of 28.57.34 at the Highgate Harriers Night of 10k PBs Meet this evening (May 14th).

Casey takes over from Abdel Laadjel (29:23.92) who broke Frank Greally’s 52-year-old record earlier this year (March 26th).

The record-breaking performance from Casey continues a remarkable last few months for the young Ennis star.

Casey was part of the Ennis Track Club team who enjoyed a historic day in Portugal on February 6th with the Junior Men’s Team capturing the European Club Cross Country Championships title with a stunning display. The victory in Lisbon was secured thanks to an incredible showing from the Casey twins, with Dean coming home in first place, just ahead of brother Dylan.

Casey also claimed a silver medal at the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in March, continuing on from his display at the 2021 European Cross Country Championships in Dublin which helped the team to an U20 silver medal.
