The death took place recently of the death of Willie Morris. Willie Morris was to Cross country what Christy Ring was to hurling in the 50’s.Willie who died in his 99th year first came to prominence when he was a member of the Kilconieron team that won the all-Ireland in 1952 finishing sixth. He was never to finish outside the top ten for the next twelve years. Winning the title the following year, repeating it in 56 when he led Galway to its first title since 1920.

1958 again seeing him winning the title from Sean Callan. He retained the title the following year leading Galway to victory. Galway retained the title in 1960 again led by Willie in fourth place,1966 saw Willlie winning his last senior all-Ireland when he helped Galway to victory. Willie was one of the truly greats of Cross Country!
