DERESE AND PURCELL CLAIM NATIONAL HALF TITLES

Yared Derese (Carrick Aces AC) and Kate Purcell (Raheny Shamrock AC) claimed their respective national half marathon titles at sun-drenched Fairyhouse racecourse this morning (September 10th). The championship races took place alongside a hugely successful Ratoath Half Marathon.

Derese looked super smooth as her entered the racecourse for his run to home, crossing in a course record 1.05.29 to claim gold. He was followed in by Paul Maloney of Mallow AC, with Noel Carroll securing a brilliant bronze for Shercock AC.

Kate Purcell continues her brilliant season, claiming her second national title of the year following her win in the 5 mile earlier this season. The Raheny star showed no ill effects from her mountain running exploits in Clonmel last weekend to cross in a course record of 1.18.01. Purcell was followed home by Sarah Baryga of Sli Cualann and Denis Toner of Clones AC.
