€85m Sports Grants Announced

Almost €3m in grants to athletics Minister for the Arts, Sport and Tourism John O’Donoghue has announced sports grants to the amount of €85m for 2007. That brings the total grant aid since 1998 to €568m. Leading the way this time round is Cork Athletics Board who have been given €700,000 to spend on the provision of a covered stand for the CIT that will include dressing rooms, meeting rooms, photo finish room and an indoor training area. Athletics Ireland receives an allocation of €400,000, while Nenagh Olympic is set to receive €250,000 towards the upgrade of their indoor stadium. Morton Stadium Management Committee is allocated €400,000. Le Cheile athletics club / Leixlip Amenities in Kildare has been allocated €300,000, and Tallaght Athletics Club in Dublin receives €130,000. And, to round off the six figure allocations, St. Abban’s Athletic Club in Laois gets €130,000, and Fingallians GAA and Athletics Club receives €180,000. 19 clubs received grants of varying amounts. A grand total of €2,868,500 to athletics.
