SPAR Great Ireland Run to offer early bird discount to first 1000 runners

It's exactly five months to go until the 2016 SPAR Great Ireland Run, which incorporates the National 10k Championships, and organisers are offering a €9 discount to the first one thousand runners to sign up.

Normally priced at €29, early birds will be able to secure a place in the popular event for only €20, for a very limited time - also cheaper than the standard club entry fee.

The 2016 event will take place once again in the Phoenix Park in Dublin on Sunday 10 April, the 10K run is part of a weekend celebration of running for the whole family and we want to build on the great entry for the national marathon.

A great day out for runners of all ages and all levels of fitness, it includes a run for 3 to 8 year olds over a 1.6k course, followed by a run for 9 to 15 year olds over 2.5k.

The race will once again give runners the chance to represent their county in the All Ireland County Challenge. To qualify each county must have at least five registered runners, and the winner is determined by the fastest average time of each county’s competitors, using chip finishing time technology.

Mark Christie (Mullingar Harriers) and Fionnuala McCormack (nee Britton; Kilcoole AC) won the individual titles last year while Leevale men and DSD women won the respective team titles.

Organisers are also planning to announce some exciting new additions to the event programme in the coming weeks.

Event Manager Gareth Turnbull, who ran in the 1500m for Ireland at the World Championships in Paris in 2003, said; “Thousands of runners of all abilities, from across Ireland and around the world, enjoyed a fantastic spring day out in the park last year.

“We’re hoping we’ll see even more people taking on the challenge in 2016, so whether you’re new to running, or keen to improve on a previous time, taking advantage of the discount will give you plenty of time to train!”

The early bird offer of €20 is only available for the first one thousand runners, for more information or to enter please visit greatirelandrun.org
