Athletics Ireland wishes to thank the ninety voting delegates who attended last Saturday’s EGM in Dublin. The EGM was focused on our governance structures and all 37 motions presented were fully supported and passed unanimously. The positive endorsement of these governance changes will ensure our sport is well positioned to continue to thrive and grow for many years to come.
The implications of these governance structural changes are summarised below, and Congress 2025 will see the new structures come into place.
Features of the new governance model include.
- A smaller more strategically focussed Board of 12 people instead of the current 16 members.
- A strategically focussed Competition Commission comprised of Juvenile, Senior Competition, Schools, Universities and Technical representatives.
- A strategically focussed Provincial Forum comprised of two representatives from each province.
- All remaining operational committees remain in place (HP, C&D, Senior Competition, Juvenile Competition, Technical, Participation).
- A balanced group of elected versus appointed Board members ensuring essential key skills to contribute to the business are engaged.
- Best practice governance principles are met as noted by experts.
Following the EGM there was a luncheon provided, this was an excellent opportunity for all attendees to socialise and discuss the mornings work.
NOTE – The EGM minutes and updated constitution will be shared online in the coming days.
