Athletics Ireland announce updated European Cup teams The European Cup women’s team includes just one change with Claire Wilkinson stepping in for Ballymena club mate Zoe Brown who has failed to shake off an injury in time. Amy Foster (North Down A.C.) steps into the vacant 200m spot. The European Cup men team shows several changes from that announced last Monday. Ciaran O’Lionaird (Leevale A.C.) is rewarded for some impressive recent form with a spot in the 5,000m. Ian McDonald steps into 110H in place of Crusaders club mate Peter Coghlan who is unavailable. Thomas Chamney has withdrawn due to illness and is replaced by David McCarthy (Le Cheile A.C.) who ran an impressive 1.47.96 at the BMC in Watford. Officials and commentators alike will have to double check their sheets with two David McCarthys both competing at senior international level in the middle distance events! Tom Carey (City of Derry A.C.) is rewarded for a season best 52.60 at the weekend with a place in the 400 Hurdles. Stephen Fleming has had to withdraw from the Long Jump and is replaced by Chris Crowley who will compete in both High Jump and Long Jump. Patrick Phelan (Tralee Harriers) has been added to the 4x100m relay in place of Stephen Fleming. European Cup
