Colin Costello who last week won the European Junior 1500 Metres title will attempt to become the 40th Irish athlete to beat four minutes for the celebrated mile distance when he runs in The Morton Mile in The Dublin International Meeting this Saturday, July 30th. There is a fine field assembled for the race with athletes from Australia, USA, Kenya and Italy included in the field. James Nolan just dipped inside the four minute barrier to win last year but he will have to run faster this year if he is to repeat his victory. Ian Dobson and Ryan Hall are on the way to represent the USA in the 5000 metres at the World Championships and they drop down to the mile and both have run 3:56. Yousef Abdi ran 3.37 for 1500 recently and Kenyan Eliud Njubi comes with some credentials. Mullingars Mark Christie is another young Irish athlete whose can also beat four minutes as indeed is Gary Murray winner of the 1500 metres in last weeks Nationals. The Mile is just one of a number of attractive events included in The Dublin International Meeting which starts @ 15.30 Further information from : Nick Davis 01-8167423, 087-2286913, 01-8378814(h)
