Eric Favors has broken the Irish Shot Put record this evening (July 30th) with a record shattering throw of 20.42m at the American Track League Meet in Memphis.
It regains top spot on the Irish all-time list for Favors, taking over from John Kelly (Finn Valley AC) who was also in action in the same Memphis event, posting a best of 18.55m.
It continues a remarkable season for the Raheny Shamrock athlete who has broken the 20m mark on several occasions already this season, a distance which had eluded for so long before his breakthrough performance in May which saw him take over from Olympian Paul Quirke’s (Crusaders AC) national record which had lasted 30 years (20.04m 1992).
Favors now once again holds both the national indoor and outdoor records having thrown 19.84m indoors back in January.
Today’s performance continues a stunning season for Irish shot putting, with both Kelly and Favors consistently threatening the 20+ meter mark in what is sure to inspire further advances in the event.
