The Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Cross Country took place on the 13th January 2018 in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. The Edinburgh XC saw team Europe go against GB & NI and the USA, competing across four races; the junior men’s 6km, the junior women’s 4km, senior men’s 8km and senior women’s 6km.

Fionnuala McCormack competed for the European team in the senior women's 6km where she finished just outside the top ten in 11th place. Stephanie Cotter also competed in the Junior Women's 4km where she finished in 21st position overall. The senior and junior races formed part of an international team challenge, where team Europe, captained by our own Fionnuala McCormack, won the overall team result. The claimed 137 points ahead of Great Britain & NI in second and USA in third.

The international mixed relay saw Ireland compete in a 4x1k challenge for the Stewart Cup. The Irish national team, who finshed fourth in the Great Edinburgh XC run, consisted of Eoin Everard, Laura Crowe, Kieran Kelly and Kerry O’Flaherty.
