The AAI/ Irish Sports Council invite clubs throughout the country to apply for support to run a Fit4Life running league in their area. These running leagues starting in September 2006 and running until November 2006 are aimed at increasing participation amongst women in running and are funded by the “Women in Sport” initiative of the Irish Sports Council. Clubs are invited to become part of this national program that will be supported and promoted nationally by the AAI and the Irish Sports council, and run by the local clubs. All clubs are invited to apply and it is envisaged that there will be 6 leagues supported in 2006. The Leagues will provide regular participation focussed running opportunities for women of all ages throughout the country which will be self sustaining in the long term. Men will also be allowed run! AAI will provide all the support necessary to launch these leagues and ensure their success Clubs may apply for these grants to have running leagues in their area at this time. Each application will be assessed under various criteria designed to ensure the success of the programme. Great importance will be placed on the number of volunteers the club can get to help steward, officiate and administer the league. The club should propose a suitable venue and course for these events, and show its ability to publicise events locally. The programme it is hoped will be expanded in 2007.
