Leinster Schools and Ton Le Gaoithe highlight the week ahead

The GloHealth Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships is one of the main domestic fixtures this week along with the Clonliffe 2 mile and the Sportsworld Terenure 5 mile.

Over 5,000 school children have competed in the zones to qualify for the Leinsters in Morton Stadium this Wednesday (May 11th) and Saturday (May 14th). Jack O’Leary (Clongowes) and Rose Finnegan (Eureka),who posted World junior qualifying times in Belfast last weekend, will be among those competing. 

The 125th Clonliffe 2 mile road race takes place tomorrow and is Ireland’s oldest road race while the popular Sportsworld Terenure 5 mile takes place on Sunday and heading the field will be Raheny Shamrock’s Mick Clohisey who holds an Olympic marathon qualifying time. 

A host of Irish middle distance runners including Rose-Anne Galligan (Newbridge) will be in Manchester this Saturday at the British Milers Club Grand Prix in Sports City. The next Diamond League also takes place this Saturday in Shanghai (May 14).

Ton Le Gaoithe, Ireland’s first wind sprint meet, is back for 2016 on Saturday May 14th. Some of Ireland’s best sprinters will get the chance to compete in the only wind sprint meet in the country which saw an incredible number of pbs in the 2015 edition.
