There were some good performances over the week-end in the Lotto Cross Cup in Belgium. Linda Byrne won the Junior Women’s race in 15.52 with Ellen Diskin 19th in 17.30 and Ciara Durkin 31st in 18.28. Danny Darcy was third in the Junior Men’s race after a great battle with England’s Keith Gerrard. Gerrard’s surging tactics disposed of Darcy’s challenge on the second lap and Danny had to settle for third in 22m03 ahead of 16th Eoin McCormack 23m06, 19th James King 23m 15 and Des Earls 24m17s. At the same venue Mark Christie was 14th in the Senior men’s race in 29m01. The race was won by Tom van Housst in 28m05. Other Irish finishers included 18th Dave Kelly 29m17, Eoin Higgins 29m49 and 39th Ian Chaney 30m53. Fionnoula Britton was 7th in the women’s race, 21m13 with Niamh Devlin in 20th 22m37. In a Birmingham League Race Rosemary Ryan finished third in 22m09 behind Hayley Yelling’s winning time of 21m18. Mark Kenneally made his seasonal debut finishing 9th in the men’s race.
