Guiden and Haggard Kearney claim National 10km titles

12 April 2026

Ian Guiden (Clonliffe Harriers A.C.) and Emily Haggard Kearney (North Belfast Harriers) claimed the senior national 10km titles on a blustery morning in the Phoenix Park at the Revive Active Great Ireland Run (April 12).

Guiden led home a field of over 3,000 finishers on the event’s new 10km route, clocking 30:13 to secure his second national road title, adding to his national 5-mile victory in 2022.

The Clonliffe Harriers athlete made his decisive move at the 7km mark, breaking clear from a lead group of four which included Jamie Walsh (Galway City Harriers A.C.), Jake O’Regan (St. John’s A.C.), and Kane Collins (Donore Harriers A.C.). Guiden never looked back from that point, maintaining his advantage to the finish.

Speaking after the race, Guiden said: “I’m feeling great and really enjoyed that out there. I missed a bit of time over the cross country season, so it’s great to get back racing. It’s my first race in a while, so I’m really happy. I sat in early as the conditions weren’t ideal with the wind, so I wasn’t too concerned about the time. With about three kilometres to go, I kicked on and felt strong.

“We have the road relays with the club in a couple of weeks, followed by the Dublin City Half Marathon, so I’m looking forward to those. I’ll likely target the national 5-mile again and keep the focus on the roads for now.”

Walsh held on for second place, while O’Regan completed the podium in third. Galway City Harriers A.C. secured the men’s team title.

The women’s race saw Emily Haggard Kearney produce a dominant front-running performance to claim her first senior national title. The North Belfast Harriers athlete made an early break and had opened a significant gap on her nearest challenger, Hannah Gilliland (Annadale Striders A.C.), by the 3km mark.

Haggard Kearney maintained a strong and consistent pace throughout, crossing the line in 33:25.

Speaking after the race, Haggard Kearney said: “It’s really exciting. The national title was what I came here hoping for, so it feels great to achieve it. The Phoenix Park is a beautiful venue, but it’s also quite hilly, and the conditions today were cold and windy, which isn’t ideal for me. I just focused on working hard and staying consistent throughout – it was an honest pace from start to finish.

“This race has been in the plans for a while. I’d love to make an Irish team for the road championships, so I’m working on improving across all distances. I’m racing a 5km in Edinburgh next week and then I’ll be back here in May for the National 5km Championships.”

Gilliland secured second place in 35:18, with Sheila O’Byrne (Parnell A.C.) taking third in 35:39. Liffey Valley A.C. claimed the senior women’s team title, rounding off an excellent day for the club.
