HARRIS AND BOLTON GALLOP TO ALL IRELAND SCHOOLS SENIOR TITLES

8 March 2025

Noah Harris (ETSS Wicklow) and Emily Bolton (The Institute of Education) secured the 2025 senior titles in from of huge crowds at today’s 123.ie All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships which took place at Galway Racecourse.

Harris enjoyed a titanic tussle with Cillian Gleeson (Coláiste Chiaráins) from the gun with both athletes striking clear of the field over the first 500 meters as they settled down to a cat and mouse chase over the undulating 6000m route.

A decisive move from Harris with about 800m to go sealed the win, upgrading last year’s silver to gold in a winning time of 19:53. Gleeson followed home for silver in 19:56, with Ryan O’Neill (Terenure College) third in 20:45. St. Mary’s Diocesan School       were crowned senior boys team champions.

Emily Bolton put in a dominant performance in the senior girl’s race, leading from the gun in a runaway win of 12:59 over the 3,500m distance to back up last year’s win in the intermediate race. Bolton’s performance also helped the Institute of Education to the team title.

Elsa Moore (Royal & Prior Raphoe) ran a huge race to claim silver in 13:17, with Dearbhla Allen (St. Mary’s College) making her way onto another national podium for third in 13:19.

The intermediate girls race saw Freya Renton (SHS Westport) maintain her remarkable run of national championship wins with a front-the-front display to cross in isolation in a time of 12:32 (3500m) which also saw SHS Westport take the team gold.

Emma Hicky (St. Mary’s Secondary Sch Newross) 12:56 and Ellen Goggin (Crescent College Comprehensive SJ) 13:03 ran superbly to pick up the silver and bronze respectively.

The inter boy’s race was billed as one not to be missed with several contenders looking to take the crown of Odhran McBrearty. The St Columbas Stranorlar athlete was not for stopping however, racing a tactically perfect race to do what not many have done before in retaining the intermediate boys title. His winning time of 17.10 seeing him go back-to-back over the 5000m distance.

Andrew Hinds (PBC Cork) 17:12 and Ben O’Reilly (Douglas CS) 17:17 were right in contention throughout and look two names for the future, while the intermediate boys team title went the way of St Colmans Newry who were led home by Aaron Agnew in 19th.

The junior titles went to last year’s minor champions with Darragh Whelan (Castletroy College) and Madison Welby (Friends School Lisburn) hugely impressive in taking gold. Kate Kelly (Mount Lourdes Enniskillen) and Jack Brennan (Patrician Secondary Sch Kildare) were very popular winner of the minor races and are both names to look out for in the future.
