Healy bows out on world championship debut

Phil Healy (Bandon) bowed out on her world championship debut in the women’s 200m heats in 23.56 this evening in the Al Khalifa International stadium (September 30).

Running in heat 1, Healy was unable to get one of the coveted three automatic qualifying spots – the race was won by Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas in 22.86.

It was a less than ideal season for Ireland’s fastest woman after breaking a bone in her foot in the summer. Nonetheless, Healy was looking on the bright side and has learned a lot ahead of the Olympics in Tokyo which are no less than a year away.

"The whole season hasn't been ideal but I'm grateful to be out here and competing against the world's best," said Healy afterwards.
