Phil Healy has been making the national headlines ever since her heroic relay run at the University Track and Field Championships last Saturday (April 16).
The 21-year-old Bandon AC athlete representing her University UCC produced the best finish you're ever likely to see when she came from literally nowhere to anchor victory in the women's 4x400m relay.
Healy is coached by national 4x100m relay coach Shane McCormack of Menapians and has been competing internationally for a number of years. She finished fourth over 100m at the European Junior Athletics Championships in Rieti in 2013 and then competed in the European Athletics Championships in Zurich in 2014 over 100m and in the 4x100m relay. Last summer she competed in the 100m and the 4x100m at the European U23 Athletics Championships in Tallinn. Healy, who studies nursing, finished second in the 100m behind her sister Joan at the University Championships and set a new University 200m record of 23.93. She is also the national U23 60m indoor record with 7.35 seconds.
