Rhasidat races to European final

Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght) raced to the European U18 200m final winning her semi-final in a new personal best of 23.77 seconds in Gyor, Hungary this morning (July 7).

The young Tallaght sprinter was impressive from lane 6 and will compete in the final this evening at 6:42pm Irish time.

Brian Lynch (Old Abbey) has a good start to his decathlon with a personal best in the 100m of 11.61 and 6.61m in the long jump. Lynch also jumped 6.74m which counted for points but not as a pb as the wind was +2.4m. He followed up with a best of 12.48m in the shot put.

The girls’ medley relay (100, 200, 300, 400) team of Adeyemi Talabi (Longford), Patience Jumbo-Gula (St Gerard’s Dundalk), Rachel McCann (North Down) and Simone Lalor (St Laurence O’Toole)  just missed out on making the final finishing fourth in their heat and tenth overall with a time of 2:13.64.

It provided a good introduction to international competition for some of the team and also Jumbo-Gula was delighted to be back on the track and competing after her fifth place finish in the 100m final last night.

Also in action tonight are Miriam Daly (Carrick on Suir) in the semis of the 400m hurdles at 5:05pm, Louis O'Loughlin (Donore Harriers) in the semis of the 800m at 7:08pm and Sophie O'Sullivan in the final of the 800m at 8:18pm.
