Ireland’s top under 16 and under 18 club athletes will be facing off against their Scottish and Welsh counterparts this Saturday in the Celtic Games. A full schedule is planned with athletes competing in track and field events throughout the day. The games will be held in Morton Stadium, Santry.
The games are a team competition and each event will be athlete will be given a point score to add to their team total. The score is based off of the athlete’s place in their respective event.
This year Ireland will also be entering an Irish Development squad in to the games to give athletes who have not been picked for the Irish team an opportunity to compete in the event.
Fingallians athlete Anne-marie Tornsey will be looking forward to the opportunity of throwing in Irish colours again after competing in Baku at the European Youth Olympic Trials.
Donagh Mahon (Gowran AC) has been in fine form in the high jump this season and a win in these games will be a great finish off to the season for him. The addition of the Irish development team in to then games will give another chance for everyone to see the fine competition between Mahon and his EYOT team mate Keith Marks (Cushinstown AC) in the under 18s high jump.
In the track events, a strong performance will be hoped for from Sean Lawlor (Donore Harriers) who is coming off a great season winning both the 100m and 200m All Ireland Schools titles this year. Gina Apke Moses (Blackrock AC Louth) will look to build on her impressive performances in the All Ireland Schools and at the SIAB Schools International and come out with a strong run in the 100m.
