Ireland's leading sprinters set for Geneva

Irish sprinters look for fast times in Geneva

A host of Ireland’s best sprinters will compete at an EAP meet in Geneva, Switzerland tomorrow (June 11).

Starting off the meet will be the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams – both teams are on the top 16 list for the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in July.  

The men’s team order will be Jason Smyth (City of Derry), Eanna Madden (Carrick-on-Shannon), Marcus Lawler (SLOT) to Craig Lynch (Shercock). The women’s team order will be Joan Healy, Phil Healy (both Bandon), Sarah Murray (Fingallians) to Niamh Whelan (Ferrybank).

Lizzie Lee (Leevale) will compete at the NYRR New York Mini 10K, established in 1972 as the world’s first road race exclusively for women, on the streets of Manhattan on Saturday, June 11.

Domestically the first round of the GloHealth National Track and Field League kicks off in Athlone and Dublin on Sunday. Reigning men’s and women’s champions, Clonliffe Harriers and Dundrum South Dublin, will start the defence of their respective titles in Morton Stadium. DSD recently finished third in the European Clubs B Track and Field Championships in Leiria, Portugal on May 28th.
