Day 1 at the European Juniors

Speed queens look to advance from first round in the 100m
15-year-old Ciara Neville has been generating the headlines this year and the first task for the Emerald youngster will be to qualify from heat 4 in the 100m (10:21am Irish time) where she is the second fastest on paper. The first four from each heat and the four fastest losers advance to the next round. Blackrock's (Louth) Gina Akpe-Moses goes in heat 5 (10:28am) and matching her best of 11.81 should qualify.
Kelly and McGuigan go in the throws
Finn Valley's John Kelly and Fellan McGuigan go in the qualifying rounds of the shot put and hammer respectively. Kelly goes in Group B (10:30am) with the automatic qualifying mark set at 18.60m or the top 12 throwers. Kelly's best is 18.61m. Then it's the turn of Fellan McGuigan who goes in Group B (11:25) of hammer qualifying with 73.00m the mark to reach or be in the top 12 throwers.
