International Indoor Meeting in Budapest this evening 2007 Indoor Season Kicks off & Britton in Action in Hannut January 25, 2007 The International Indoor Calendar gets underway this evening where a selection of Irish athletes will compete in the International Indoor Meeting in Budapest. David McCarthy will compete in his debut over 800m, his success over 400m - finalist in the World Indoor Championships in 2003 and member of medal winning relay team in 2004 will undoubtedly stand to him in his new event. Sharon Heveran will compete in the High Jump after setting a new indoor personal best of 1.82 last weekend in Scotland, and National 60m indoor champion and record holder Anna Boyle will compete in the 60m. Young Jason Smyth from City of Derry will also compete. Jason competed in the World Junior Championships last summer in Beijing and is making the transition to senior level competition. The Team will continue on to the Elan Indoor Meeting in Bratislava on Sunday 28th where they will be joined by Paul Hession, Ailis McSweeney and Ciara Sheehy. Paul had a quick start to his season last weekend and will be looking forward to recording another personal best over 60m. The team then travel on to Vienna where they will compete on Tuesday 30th and Liam Reale who made a huge breakthrough in 2006, making the final in the European Championships will open up his indoor season running in the 1500m and the 3K. Elsewhere indoors at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games Alistair Cragg will open his indoor season taking on Craig Mottram in the 3000m, James Nolan will compete in the 1500m and Roisin McGettigan, Mary Cullen and Marie Davenport will compete in the women’s 3000m all hoping to gain qualification for the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham in March. CROSS COUNTRY After a magnificent performance in Edinburgh recently, Fionnuala Britton is taking to the country again in the Lotto Cross Cup in Hannut in Belgium against a quality line up.
