A travelling band of six Irish athletes will compete in the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships tomorrow.

Lizzie Lee (Leevale) gets underway at 13:35 in the women’s race as Ireland’s sole female representative – her first Irish vest on the road.

“As a runner there is nothing that makes me prouder or more motivated than putting on the green gear,” said Lee who will look to use this experience to help her on the road to Rio in the marathon.

Conditions are set to be wet and windy with Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders) leading a full men’s team of five with their race starting at 14:10.

“Looking forward to wearing the Irish vest again,” said Pollock, echoing the sentiments of Lizzie Lee. He will be joined on the start line by Kevin Seaward (St Malachy’s), Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers), Sean Hehir (Rathfarnham) and Thomas Frazer (Crusaders).

The action will be televised live on BBC 1 from 13:30 with a mass participation race alongside it with lots of Irish runners set to take part.
