Martin Fagan, Mullingar competing in the NCAA championships in Sacramento, California on Thursday night finished 2nd in the 10,000 metres in 28.41.41 which qualifies him for the European championships in Gothenburg. Martin has already qualified over 5000 metres with 13.39.62. This latest run is well inside his previous best of 28.59.89. Martin ( 22 )made a big impact last year at the European under 23 championships finishing 5th in the 5000 metres and 4th in the 10,000metres. Thomas Chamney is another athlete who will be pleased with himself from the NCAA's as he qualified as a fastest loser for the 800 metres final with a fine new personal best of 1.47.70 . His next target will be the European standard of 1.47.20 Incidentally Thomas also ran 1.48.45 in his heat . Another athlete to make the final was Mary Cullen in the 5000 metres as she won her heat in 16.05.12. We wish Mary and Thomas luck in their finals. At the EAP meeting in Celle Ligure, Italy on Thursday Emily Maher had her first outing of the season finishing 3rd in the 100 metres in 11.88 ( -04 ) and 2nd in the 200 metres in 23.96 ( -0.1 )
