The Irish Milers Club will host their premier event of the season at Saturday’s Irish Schools in Tullamore. First on the cards is the men’s 1500m race which has a strong line up including Alan O’Brien of Crusaders who ran a fast 800m on Wednesday night in Santry as well as Sean Hehir, Thomas Fitzpatrick and James King. Paul Fleming takes up pace making duties with an 800m time of 2.04 to 2.06 planned. The race will be followed by the women’s 800m which includes the in form Deirdre Byrne who won the women’s A race at the Watford BMC two weeks ago and will be looking for an Olympic qualifying time over 1500m later in the summer. She will face good opposition from Rose Anne Galligan as well as Dawn Kelly. Paul Fleming again takes up the pacing role in this race going through 400m in 61 seconds. The men’s Olympic Mile will feature all of Ireland’s top home-based milers including two time Olympian and local athlete, James Nolan who was the first athlete to run sub four minutes for the mile in Offaly four years ago. The race will be hotly contested by Colm Rooney who was third in the men’s A race at the Watford BMC, as well as Liam Reale, Mark Christie and Fintan Mc Gee. Last years schools 1500m winner John Coghlan is also in the field. Former World Indoor finalist and top class Welsh runner James Thie is been brought over by the Irish Milers Club to bring the athletes around in sub four minute mile pace. Athletes are asked to register at the IMC tent which will be in the grounds on the day.
