Colin Griffin impresses over 30k The Irish Race Walkers have been busy in recent times with some notable performances on the international circuit. Last weekend the focus moved to the Isle of Man where a number of Irish athletes were in action at the HSBC Manx Harriers event. Colin Griffin recorded a very impressive 2:13.15 to win the 30K event. Conditions were very blustery and Colin's strong performance augurs well for his upcoming debut over 50K. In the Junior 5K races the Irish athletes battled the strong winds to register victories in both events. Laura Reynolds of Mohill AC had a welcome return to form clocking 25.52 in the womens event with Donna Carolan of Sli Cualainn a good second in 27.02 In the Junior mens 5K Paul Fitzpatrick of Shercock was an impressive winner in 22.10 which was a big PB for him. Other Irish performances were David Kidd, SLOT and John Egan of Bree both recording 46.52 in the 10K event with Michael Doyle returning 48.22 over the same distance. A week earlier Olive Loughnane achieved the World and Olympic "A" standard with a fine 1:32.25 at the Portugese Championships. This completes a remarkable return to form as Olive gave birth to her daughter last summer. Robert Heffernan just missed the "A" standard when he recorded 83.02 on a tough course in Spain but hopes to reach this milestone at his next event.
