We were in festive mood on Tuesday night in the Athletics Ireland offices in Santry for the launch of the Irish Runner 2015 Yearbook. CEO John Foley announced that AAI membership has now passed an unprecedented 54,000, and the evening incorporated a celebration for four Irish athletes who have had special anniversaries to mark in 2014.
John Treacy, Sonia O'Sullivan, Catherina McKiernan, and Gerard Hartmann were four guests of honour on the night. It was nice to hear each of them talk about how running continues to be a lifestyle choice many years after the pinnacles of their careers. Another special guest on the night was David Gillick.
