Irish sprinters bow out on championship debuts

The three Irish sprinters bowed out on their championship debuts on day 2 of the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow this morning (March 2).

Joseph Ojewumi (Tallaght) was the first of the Irish sprinters on track and he finished 6th in heat 1 of the men’s 60m in 6.97 seconds.

Ciara Neville (Emerald) had to withdraw from the women’s 60m heats due to illness with her fellow world U20 relay silver medallists Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn) and Molly Scott (SLOT) competing in heat 5 and 6 respectively.

Lauren Roy finished 7th in her heat in 7.62 seconds from lane 6. Molly Scott just missed out on a place in the semi-finals finishing 6th in 7.43 seconds – a time of 7.40 seconds would have gotten her through as a fastest qualifier.
